 I was rewatching Dune recently, and something hit me harder than usual. Honestly, if you can ignore the spice wars and giant sandworms for a second, there is a glaring detail that stands out: there isn't a single smart droid or AI anywhere in that massive galaxy.

As someone who spends a good chunk of my day researching humanoid robots and testing the limits of new language models, this contrast felt completely jarring. In Frank Herbert’s universe, humanity didn't just forget how to build AI. They fought a bloody, existential war called the Butlerian Jihad to wipe out thinking machines forever.

Their ultimate rule? "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind."

Are We Rolling Out the Red Carpet for AI?

When I look at my own screens—watching machines learn to walk, talk, and reason at a staggering pace—I have to ask myself a serious question. Are we sleepwalking into a scenario where we might eventually need our own Butlerian Jihad?

• The Cost of Convenience: We aren't being conquered by machines; we are actively inviting them in. We are handing over our writing, coding, and decision-making because it is incredibly convenient. But what happens when we lose the human touch entirely?
