Are We Actually Living in a Simulation?

 I always thought The Matrix was just a brilliant piece of 90s cyberpunk fiction to watch with a bowl of popcorn. But lately, I’ve been researching the intersection of quantum physics and computational theory, and I have to admit—I am genuinely disturbed by what I found.

When you look closely at how the fundamental laws of our universe operate, they look suspiciously like video game mechanics.

Here are the two things that totally broke my brain this week:

• The Universe Saves Rendering Power: In quantum mechanics, particles act as waves of probability until they are directly observed. The millisecond a scientist watches them, they "snap" into solid reality. In the gaming world, we call this frustum culling—the engine only renders what the player is actively looking at to save CPU power. Is the universe just trying to save on processing load?

• Computer Code in the Cosmos: Theoretical physicists working on string theory recently discovered Claude Shannon’s error-correcting codes—the exact same digital codes running inside your web browser right now—embedded deep within the fundamental mathematical equations of our universe. Why is there literal software code buried in the fabric of reality?

As someone who spends every day analyzing virtual worlds and the future of the Metaverse, this hit me hard. We are currently writing the code for new digital realities, which makes me wonder: are we just learning how to build what was already built around us?
